Explorer Scouts

Scouts aged 14 and over are Explorer Scouts. In our district, you should decide which Explorer Unit is for you. Joining Explorer Scouts means you can take part in some or all of what we offer; a challenging programme, outdoor based adventures, Duke of Edinburgh’s AwardThe Queen’s Scout Award or Young Leader Training.

If you’re already a scout, you can try out explorers from 13½ if you want to, going to Explorers AND Scouts for a while. You need to move to Explorers before you are 14 years 3 months years old. Explorer scouting is flexible and will fit in around school, college and work commitments and your life!

What About my Scout Group?
Becoming an Explorer Scout means you join our district Explorer Units. You’re part of something bigger than a Scout Group.

You don’t have to break your links with the people you’ve come to know really well, after all you’re still a Scout! If you’re helping out in your old group as a young leader, you’ve got to have a 6 month break from the scout troop to give everyone a chance to adjust.

Usually a section has up to three young leaders helping at any one time. Young Leader training will help you make sense of all this and find the right section for you.

Teesdale Scouts has two Explorer Units working in the District.

Friday Explorers are from 8pm to 9.30pm at Barnard Castle.

Sunday Explorers are from 8pm to 9.30pm at Staindrop.
